Get to the Root of It

Losing your hair sucks. Sometimes you lose your hair due to poor diet, stress, anxiety, medical conditions, or after having a baby.

What can we do about it?? Well, you can pull a Britney and just shave your head,

OR, you can take your hair loss into your own hands and do something about it!

As always, proper nutrition and Lifelong Vitality Supplements (LLV) are the fundamentals for hair regrowth. Add in some key essential oils and the dōTERRA hair care line, and you are ready to rock!

Frankincense can help to make your hair roots stronger, which totally reduces the amount of hair you are going to clean out of your drain and off of your floor. It can also help to prevent dandruff and leave your hair shiny and beautiful.

Lavender is one that we have been using in our daughter’s shampoo since she was about 18 months. Now at three, her hair is almost down to her butt (and yes we get her a tiny trim twice a year). It increases blood circulation in your scalp, which in turn, helps to promote longer, fuller hair growth. Lavender is also a relaxing oil, which can help you to sleep better and reduce stress and anxiety. These are all common reasons for hair loss.

Rosemary helps to stimulate your hair follicles to promote hair growth. It is also beneficial in getting rid of dandruff. If you want a thicker head of hair, Rosemary is your go-to oil!

Thyme has been shown to improve hair growth when used regularly with lavender.

So how can you use these oils for longer, fuller hair?

You have a number of options in this area. You can put a few drops onto your hands, massage your scalp, and let it sit for a few minutes before washing it out.

You can make a hair mask with coconut oil and let it sit over night – don’t forget to put a towel on your pillow before going to sleep.

You can also add 5-10 drops of each oil directly into your shampoo bottle, which happens to be my favourite method!

I also recommend using the dōTERRA shampoo & conditioner set. Not only does it smell amazing and leave your hair totally clean, but they are CLEAN products!

I’m a total research nerd, so I sat down and put every single ingredient for both of these products into the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. I wrote down the score for each ingredient and got the average – one is the safest, and 10 is most dangerous for our bodies.

The shampoo is graded at a 1.6 out of 10, and the conditioner is a 1.4!!!

I did a quick search for a popular shampoo that I see advertised on TV commercials all the time. It was a 5!!

dōTERRA’s Protective Shampoo is professionally formulated with CPTG essential oils, gentle cleansers, and botanical ingredients to keep hair looking and feeling healthy and clean. It protects colour treated hair against UV oxidization and removes the impurities left on the hair and scalp by styling products.

Full disclosure moment: the first few times I used this shampoo, I HATED the way my hair felt while I was rinsing it. It felt stripped of everything I was used to. It took me a few weeks to realize that this is what clean hair feels like. I was so used to store bought garbage that left my hair oh so shiny and smooth, but oh so greasy after a day or two that I had to wash my hair again. And we are all beginning to learn that your hair only needs to be washed twice per week, MAX!

The Smoothing Conditioner contains botanical extracts, natural proteins, and conditioning emollients to leave hair shiny and soft. It smoothes hair and provides an anti-static effect for a beautiful finished look. It is the perfect compliment to the shampoo!

Add in the Root To Tip Serum and the Healthy Hold Glaze, which both contain CPTG essential oils (lavender, peppermint, marjoram, cedarwood, lavandin, rosemary, niaouli, and eucalyptus) and you have your brand new hair care routine!!

I am totally in love with the shampoo and conditioner, the way my hair looks and feels, and the lack of hair that collects on my bathroom floor after blowdrying!  I’m also starting to notice a whole bunch of new growth around my hairline! Sure, it’s making for some styling challenges right now (thank goodness for headbands), but in 3-4 months it will be long enough to incorporate it into my top knot!! Try this system for yourself so we can all be in love with our healthy, beautiful hair!
